Star Wars: Imperial Assault arrived yesterday, earlier than expected (originally it was due February, but suddenly it jumped forward to this week).
The game is basically a Star Wars-themed version of Descent, 2nd edition, and has been further refined. It includes a team versus overlord (kind of ‘games master’ style) or a skirmish 1 vs 1 mode. I’ve not yet had a chance to play, but I’m looking forward to trying both out – and the thought’s crossed my mind to design a campaign linking Imperial Assault and X-Wing… just need Armada to complete the scale!
I’ve divided the unboxing in to separate galleries below.
Manuals and Cards
This is the real cool bit – the figures themselves. One note though – the AT-ST bottom gun was a pain to attach – I had to file down the bit it goes into to make it fit, and was very nervous of snapping the guns off. Got there in the end though, and the result is a nice model (as are all of them, really. Standard for FFG).
Bonus figure packs
I’m not sure whether these aren’t intended to remain as part of the main box long-term, but they were listed as bonus figure packs on an insert in the box. They do give a taster of what the add-on packs will contain, providing extra missions in both 5-player and skirmish varieties and figures to replace the ally tokens with the game for Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. There are upcoming packs to replace other tokens – namely Han Solo, Chewbacca, the Rebel Troopers, Rebel Saboteurs, Royal Guard, IG-88 and the modified Imperial AT-ST walker of General Weiss.
